A few years after the founding of the AIS (Italian Sommelier Association), Jean Valenti, a founding member, along with Gianfranco Botti, Ernesto Rossi, and Leonardo Gerra, wrote: "Before the Lord calls me to his vineyards, I hope that sommeliers down here will be more united and less quarrelsome. Life passes quickly and there is much suffering. Sommeliers, who have the privilege of tasting and serving the fruit of the vine and of human labor, which gives us so much joy, should be the first to set an example."
